My interest in sculpting was inherited from my grandmother, Katherine Fuller, herself an accomplished sculptor. However, until recently I had only dabbled with sculpting as an aside to painting wildlife. A friend of mine suggested that I should have one of my 'dabblings' cast into bronze and the rest, as the say, is history!

I usually model the original piece in clay or wax and then take it to Castle Fine Art Foundry in Llandrhaeadr, North Wales to be cast into bronze. The foundry makes an exact replica of my original in wax. This is known as the 'lost wax.' This wax is encased both inside and out with plaster. Molten bronze is poured into the plaster casing and the wax melts out and is 'lost,' the bronze setting in its place. I then treat the sculpture with acids in a process called 'patination' in order to colour the surface of the bronze. The whole process (not including sculpting!) takes between three and six weeks. I really did not feel it would do justice to my bronze sculptures to put an 'add to cart' button by the side of each of them. Each sculpture is made to order & it would seem far to clinical!
