All about Robert's Summer exhibition 2010
Hunt for dragonflies, learn the basics of birdwatching or take a night owl safari at a wildlife art exhibition with a difference. Yorkshire wildlife artist Robert Fuller is to host a ‘Wildlife Festival' between June 26 th and July 11 th at his gallery in Thixendale. Alongside a stunning display of wildlife paintings, visitors can also take a guided tour to find marbled white butterflies, or learn how to handle and fly birds of prey. The festival is to be a celebration of the rich variety of species that the Yorkshire countryside has to offer. “This is the UN Year of Biodiversity,” Mr Fuller said. “Sadly national targets set to halt biodiversity by the UN eight years ago have not been met, but I want people to recognise that there is still a wealth of wildlife in the countryside. The Robert Fuller Gallery , at Fotherdale Farm, Thixendale, is just minutes from the Wold's Way, a 79 mile public access walk that stretches across the rich chalk grasslands of the Yorkshire Wolds where a wide variety of native species can be found. “There isn't a better time to concentrate on what we do have and focus on preserving it for the future,” he added. “The countryside around this part of the Yorkshire Wolds is still teaming with wildlife, I hope this festival will show people how to find it and enjoy it.” The festival will feature a series of ‘wildlife' events, including nature walks with the acclaimed naturalist Michael Flowers and falconry displays with professional falconers Minster Falconry. It will also showcase Mr Fuller's latest collection of paintings and sculptures featuring native British species, including red deer , otters, badgers and the best of British birdlife. Also on show are limited-edition prints and paintings of animals and birds from around the world. The artist will also open up his studio so that visitors can see how he works. On exhibit will be his photographic studies of wildlife in the field, which he uses to paint from. Robert Fuller's Festival of Wildlife runs from June 26 th – July 11 th at Fotherdale Farm, Thixendale. The exhibition will be open to view daily between 11am and 4.30pm .
