I spend months studying wildlife in its natural habitat for my paintings, but it's the tiniest of details that really bring my paintings to life.Â
Animal research
I often spend months on my paintings, first observing my subject in the field to study their behaviours, then photographing them, preparing compositions and at last beginning the painting process. I start with the background, followed by the subject. But what really takes the paintings to the next level, and adds the depth to help really capture the realism, are the finishing touches.
Small details
The highlights, the shadows and the smallest of details. A reflection in an eye, a single strand of fur, or a feather on the tip of a wing. It’s through these delicate brush strokes, that the subjects really come to life.
