Shortly after Athena the kestrel lays her first egg, Apollo arrives with a meal - he seems so excited he even has a go at brooding it whilst she pops out for a break. Male kestrels do share incubation duties, but not until the third or fourth egg when brooding then begins in earnest.
Kestrels Apollo & Athena
This kestrel pair have nested in Ash Hollow in Ash Wood every year since I first built this nest box for them in 2021. Athena laid her first egg on March 31st. Kestrels lay every other day, so a second is expected on April 2nd.
