Enjoy this amazing close-up footage of a male kingfisher inside its nest and listen to the sound it makes as it picks up a discarded egg shell and flies out of the nest with it in his beak.
Seven kingfisher chicks
This kingfisher pair now have seven chicks, but there's still a lot of housework to be done. Watch the male as he repeatedly pecks at one of the egg shells, eventually picking it up with his long beak and flying out of the nest with it. There are still plenty of shells to remove!
Colour footage
I've been give some new lights by a firm named Adaptalux (https://adaptalux.com/) to try. They are designed for macro- photography and are very fine, which means I can get them into the nest to get colour footage of kingfisher behaviour in the nest. So far I'm really pleased with the results!
