Beautiful setting in Thixendale in the Yorkshire Wolds – a barn owl flew in front of our car as we drove up to the farm which should give you some idea of the site. Robert Fuller is an extremely talented wildlife artist and conservationist and he shares both these passions with anyone who cares to visit. He is often not there himself but the alternate staff are very welcoming and well informed. Allow at least an hour to look around all his wonderful pictures which are for sale by the way.” Peter, London.

Best Art Gallery in Yorkshire!
My gallery is the best art gallery in Yorkshire, according to a new TripAdvisor guide to the 10 best art galleries in Yorkshire! Located in the remote Yorkshire Wolds village of Thixendale it even tops giants such as the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and the Hepworth Gallery in Wakefield.
TripAdvisor, which uses visitor reviews to rank public venues, awarded The Robert Fuller Gallery a 5* rating – enough to rank top of its guide to the 10 best art galleries in Yorkshire. Of a total of 107 reviews of my gallery, the majority were by visitors who gave it 5*s, making it the best art gallery in Yorkshire! To be ranked at the top of a guide to the best art galleries in Yorkshire is a great feeling! It means that the people who visit have genuinely enjoyed themselves which is what all the hard work is for.
Run by myself, my wife and a small team of staff, my gallery in Thixendale is very much a family business. Located in former farm buildings attached to my home, visitors are often met by my two young daughters and my pet dog, Tink. I share my stories about watching wildlife on information boards hanging in the gallery and visitors can go inside my studio to see what I’m working on next.
I travel the world to see wildlife for my paintings, but it is my insight into British species that seems to appeal to most visitors. Many of the wild creatures whose portraits hang on the walls actually live in my garden. I have installed surveillance cameras so that I can follow their secret lives and over the years I have come to know their individual characters.Visitors here are able to follow the stories of the wildlife in my garden via screens transmitting live images from nest cams and surveillance cameras. I also show videos of the best of my footage in the gallery and online. Take a look at my barn owl nest cam and my kestrel cam here. Often my research into animal behaviour features on TV.
It is the experience of being immersed in wildlife that has led to my gallery being ranked as the best art gallery in Yorkshire. Visitors say they like seeing my paintings alongside my research into animal behaviour.
Situated high above the Vale of York, my gallery overlooks the Yorkshire Wolds. To get here visitors have to follow a single road off the beaten track. The route, over the Wolds, is signposted by a series of brown signs. It is a beautiful spot to visit!
Reviews on TripAdvisor describe the experience of visiting the venue as a true immersion in wildlife. Here is one of the most recent reviews posted by a visitor from Sheffield:
“The setting is divine, narrow pretty lanes deep intriguing Wolds, then you arrive at the prettiest gallery. It’s easy to lose yourself in the wonderful wildlife art on show here.
“It’s great to be able to see what Robert Fuller is working too on and he’s very approachable, friendly and pleasant when he’s in the gallery. The staff are great and very helpful when it comes to frame choices etc and prints posted out are really well packaged. All in all a visit is a lovely experience and to be recommended to anyone art lover or not.” Liz, Sheffield.
If you haven’t already been, put it on your bucket list!
