The barn swallow chicks are getting ready for their first flights. They can now stand and their flight feathers have almost grown through - although fluffs of downy feathers still cling to the sides of their heads!

This swallow pair laid five eggs in my back porch. After 14 days of incubation, the birds began taking eggshells out of the nest - and then, a glimpse of tiny beaks! But they grew fast and within two weeks they were large enough to be able to peek over the side of the nest. This clip was taken between the ages of 10-14 days, which means they will fledge very soon. They can now stand up and are already flapping their wings.
