Film | A Painting Inspired by Red Kites | Wildlife Art

Red kites have always fascinated me and often catch my eye as they soar in the sky with their iconic forked tails.

Watch as I begin my painting.

I start by getting the background down, adding the different colours into the clouds, the shadows and then the highlights. Once I'm happy with the background I use a spray gun/air brush to soften the clouds, then add outlines in pencil. I block in the main colours using broad brushstrokes, using pale grey for the heads, brownish for the back and rusty red for the bodies bodies

Adding detail

Next I add all the details. This is an extremely meticulous process and takes the longest. But it really brings the painting to life Now that it's finished do you think it captures the real bird?
