Film | Barn owl lays eggs at last | Gylfie & Dryer

Barn owls Gylfie & Dryer have at last got two eggs - and Gylfie may lay again any day.

Barn Owl Pair

When it comes to breeding barn owls Gylfie & Dryer have taken their time. At one point Gylfie seemed so exasperated at their delay in starting a family she took matters into her own hands and tried mating her mate, Dryer.Despite being slow off the mark, Dryer seems utterly devoted now the eggs are here. Watch him dote on Gylfie as she sits on their first egg and note how he tries to look round her legs at the egg once she is standing - time to go hunting!

Barn Owl Eggs

Barn owls can breed all year but it is more usual for breeding to take place in springtime. This pair's first egg was laid on the very last day of May (31st), with the second laid four days later on June 4th.Barn owls normally lay every two to three days so this second egg was late. However, if Gylfie resumes her normal cycles she should lay again any day now.

Barn Owl Chicks

It will be roughly 30 days before the chicks hatch. Subscribe to my channel to be notified of arrivals.
