Kestrels Jenny and Jasper share a quiet ‘dinner date’ — a tender sign that this falcon pair are still together and already preparing for the breeding season ahead.
Kestrel courtship
Filmed on cameras hidden in my Yorkshire garden, this intimate moment shows male kestrel Jasper gently offering food to Jenny. Food gifts are a vital part of kestrel courtship: when a female accepts, the bond is reaffirmed and the partnership strengthened. After successfully raising four chicks in my Sycamore Stump nest box in 2025, these birds of prey are approaching a new breeding season together. It's mid-January and as this tender scene demonstrates, they are already reaffirming their bonds.
