It was amazing to see Jasper the kestrel feeding his newly hatched kestrel chicks. It is not common for a male kestrel to feed such young chicks as usually they don't have the instinct to break up large prey items into suitably size morsels for young chicks.
Kestrel's surprise behaviour
Jenny was certainly surprised to find him in the nest doing this - and he made a quick exit! It's the first year we've followed Jasper as a kestrel dad. So far he is doing a great job providing for his mate Jenny and their brood of four kestrel chicks.
