Film | Lucky barn owl adopted by wild owls | Gylfie & Dryer

Meet Lucky, a rescued barn owl chick now adopted by Gylfie.

Lucky's Story

This barn owl chick is the only survivor from a brood of five living in a wild nest in Wetherby, Yorkshire. The other four perished due to a lack of food – it has been a very wet year for wildlife and the parent birds were not bringing in any catches.. Before being rescued, Lucky had gone two days without food. Gylfie is an experienced barn owl mum and has raised foster chicks in the past, after I introduced a rescued chick to her when she was on eggs. Watch her take to the role again – she barely misses a beat when she discovers Lucky in the nest. This method of rehabilitation gives the chicks the best chance of survival in the wild, since they are raised naturally.
