Film | Wildflower Meadow Inspires Stoat Painting | Wildlife Art

It started when I seeded a wildlife meadow.

Planting my painting's backdrop!

I've spent decades turning my garden into a wildlife haven, including planting wildflower meadows throughout. This habitat both attracts my wildlife subjects, and provides the perfect backdrop! So when I spotted a stoat playing amongst the clover, I knew this would be the subject of my next oil painting. For this composition I painted the background meadow and then, using a scalpel, scraped off the paint. This gave me the perfect, rough texture on which to paint the fur. I then built up the fur of the stoat, slowly adding more and more detail, my brush strokes all going in the same direction of the fur.

Hope you enjoyed watching my painting journey!
