I managed to capture the story as a little owl catches a worm and carries it back to feed its two week old chicks.
Little owl species
Little owls are the UK's smallest owls. An adult measures just 20cm when standing and the chicks weigh just 10g - they really are tiny balls of fluff! Not strictly a native species, these owls were introduced here in the 19th century. To film it, I built a bespoke nest, made especially to attract little owls and fitted with a camera so that I could follow their day-to-day lives. This female has three chicks. In this video they are around two weeks old.
