It's mid-August and already kestrels Jenny and Jasper are prospecting for new nests - and they've got their eye on Beech Stump. But is this a good idea?
Kestrels' go house hunting
This kestrel pair nested off-camera this year and so it's good to see them back in the garden inspecting new homes for the next breeding season. Watch the female Jenny tour the property before inviting her partner Jasper to see what he thinks. This behaviour is great to see.
But this nest is taken
But this particular nest actually belongs to Luna the tawny owl. I wonder if they've forgotten what happened last time they tried to take it? Thankfully there's still a lot of time before the first eggs are laid and a lot more prospective nests to tour. Fingers crossed they choose a different box - preferably on camera this time.
