HELLO

Thunderstorms finally broke the dry spell here in Yorkshire, bringing with them some welcome rain.

The sudden change reminded me of a clip my nest cameras once recorded of a barn owl chick experiencing its first ever storm.

Click on the link to watch it, and scroll on to see some rare footage of a red kite nest.

IN THE NEWS

It’s been a summer of extremes: drought, searing heat, thunderstorms & floods. BBC Look North interviewed me to find out what all this means for wildlife. Watch it at 22 mins 38 secs in.

(Apologies, for rights reaasons, if you are outside the UK you will not be able to access it).

RED KITE NEST

WILDLIFE FILMS

This spring I watched a red kite pair on a nest 15m up a larch tree.

This short clip shows you the amazing moments as the female lays three eggs at three day intervals in the pair’s extensive, but exposed nest.

BARN OWL AT REST

LIMITED EDITION PRINT | FROM £125

The dry, golden-grass backdrop to this painting sums up late summer here on the Yorkshire Wolds, and this season in particular when it has been very hot.

I wanted to capture the way barn owls turn to look at you when they spot you.

HIJACKING PICNICERS

The recent thunderstorms remind me of a soggy July I once spent in Dalby Forest looking for a wild fox with a reputation for robbing picnicers.

The truth behind her story was of course much more interesting.
