Take time out to enjoy nature this Christmas. In my first art exhibition since the pandemic, I will again be showing my paintings alongside the heart-warming films that inspired them. Join me at my tranquil beamed art gallery high on the Yorkshire Wolds and relax with a freshly brewed coffee, warm mulled wine and a mince pie as you browse.

A multi-media event

Detailed paintings are on show alongside mesmerising wildlife films, photographs and live nest cameras bringing the secret stories of owls, kestrels, stoats and weasels straight to you.

Lifelike artwork

I like to paint in a realistic style and create portraits of the actual owls, foxes, badgers and hares I have come to know so well after following their individual lives on film. Among the paintings on show is this work below showing gannets performing their beautiful courtship dance, known as 'sky pointing'. This was informed by watching these stunning sea birds right on my doorstep at RSPB Bempto n.

And below is a portrait of Mrs Kes, a brave kestrel who sadly disappeared this year. Mrs Kes was a long-term resident of Fotherdale Farm and after watching her fight off jackdaws and owls to protect her chicks, I painted her standing guard at her nest, as she so often did.

Other paintings on show include this weasel, inspired by the many weasels I've rescued and helped reintroduce to the wild here at Fotherdale as well as a number of wild weasels I've watched in my garden. I was touched by the way these tiny but fearless animals stand up on their hind legs to investigate anything new.

See animal nest cameras

I use surveillance cameras hidden in my garden and surrounding countryside to follow the stories of individual animals, including owls, kestrels, stoats, and weasels. See what you can spot during your visit!

Enjoy wildlife films

And watch the films of the animal lives I followed this year, among them the heartwarming tale of a tawny owl named Luna who adopted two owl chicks after her own eggs failed and another feature telling the story of Mr Kes the kestrel who defied science by learning how to feed his chicks after his partner (Mrs Kes who'se portrait is above) disappeared.

My wood-beamed gallery is situated just outside the village of Thixendale, deep in the stunning Yorkshire Wolds landscape, so you can make a day of it and explore the local area. The exhibition is free to visit and there is ample car parking on site. Here's how to get here.
