Athena takes the lead
Athena the kestrel is always ready to face any challenges that cross her path. Already this year she has chased away a rival; Jenny, a female kestrel from Fotherdale who briefly caught Athena's long-term partner Apollo's attention.
Now she's guarding her favourite nest site, Ash Hollow from competitors. She even stands up to a tawny owl when it tries to evict her and, later, when jackdaws attempt a raid on the nest, Athena takes the lead - chasing the jackdaws away. This pair return to Ash Hollow every year to raise their young - and every year they show how true partnership is at the heart of their survival!
