Filming from the heart of the swan nest, I got incredible footage of the swan cygnets as they ventured on their first swims.
Hide built in lake
I built my hide right next to a swan nest which meant I had to swim into it to film the swan family from below. I often spent hours lying as still as possible in the water, but it meant I could film into the heart of the nest using a probe lens to capture the cygnets' first moments. In this clip, one has just hatched, it's feather's still damp.
The female swan was just inches from the end of my lens as I filmed her turning her eggs to keep them evenly warm. And then I caught the special moment the boldest, and oldest, of the swan cygnets followed her into the water for their first ever swims.
