Film | This Tawny Owl Was Sitting Quietly On Her Eggs When A Kestrel Attacked | Luna & Shadow

In the second kestrel attack in days, Luna the tawny owl fights off a new intruder to her nest. This time it's the male kestrel Jasper, egged on by his partner Jenny, who dares disturb the nesting owl. A tawny owl is more than twice the weight of a kestrel and much more powerful and Luna soon makes short shrift of the kestrel.

Luna the tawny owl's chicks are due to hatch in around one week's time. As she sits quietly brooding her four eggs, Jasper the male kestrel suddenly flies into the nest. He's on the attack.

Moments before, you can see Jenny behind Jasper, encouraging him, and finally actually pushing him in to the nest. This is the second time in just two days Luna has been disturbed by this kestrel pair - previously it was Jenny who dared enter her nest.

But Luna is the bigger bird of prey and quickly pins this kestrel intruder to the ground. As he flies out of the nest, she settles back on to her eggs. Thankfully the eggs seem unharmed by this altercation. Keep an eye on the livestream from Luna's nest to see the owlets hatch.
