When Athena the kestrel spots a kestrel at the entrance to her nest, she wastes no time in evicting it. Watch her snatch the unsuspecting corvid from its perch. But the jackdaw is soon back and this time with a partner - a sign that although Athena has won - this is just the first nest box battle of the season.
Old rivals
Each year kestrels Apollo & Athena fight jackdaws to secure their favourite nest sight, Ash Hollow. But in this first bout of the season, Athena scores an early win - quickly ousting a jackdaw from the entrance of Ash Hollow. I'm sure this won't be the last battle for these rival birds.
