Rigel the barn owl is around two months old and beginning to explore the world outside her nest. But before she can survive on her own, she needs to be able to hunt. Watch her teach herself how.
Survival training
Rigel is the only surviving chick of barn owls' Orion & Celeste's and gets her name from the brightest star in Orion's constellation. At two months old, she can already fly short distances and is now learning the essentials of hunting. Watch her pounce on a stick - and even a feather - in the nest. She also needs to strengthen her wing muscles for that key, silent flight. And until she has mastered these key survival skills, her parent Celeste will continue to supply her with food.
