Peregrine Nest Camera | A New Clutch Of Eggs At Salt End

Cameras running 24 hours on a peregrine nest located on a vast industrial site in Hull are relayed via a wireless internet signal to my remote gallery in Thixendale. Follow the story of the peregrines of Salt End Chemical Park here. The highlights so far include a dramatic courtship conducted at dizzying heights and the magical moment four spectacular red-brown eggs are laid, one by one. Scroll down to see the paintings inspired by this intense peregrine watch.

Salt End Peregrine Eggs

Courtship to egg-laying

Watch the following clip to see this formidable peregrine pair as they undergo their unique courtship process. See how the cameras were fitted to film the peregrines. This was a challenging project and involved collaboration from several different companies working at this vast industrial site. The nest box was fitted by employees and is a great example of how industry has embraced conservation. Watch the piece to see the male and female courting and then mating at these dizzying heights! Note the four stunning red-brown eggs as they are laid, one by one. Notice how after the first egg is laid the male and female take turns guarding the nest. The female doesn't incubate the clutch until the last egg is laid, but she needs to keep watch over them. So when the male has a catch for her, he will fly by the nest to call her out to give it to her. He then takes over the role of guarding the eggs, giving the female her a chance to stretch her wings. These airborne food passes also keep the nest clean.

The peregrine pair at Salt End inspired a collection of paintings. I use the nest cameras to study these birds so that my paintings are as accurate as possible. Scroll down to see the full collection:
