March 2025: Luna the tawny owl is laying a clutch of eggs - her sixth in six years! Watch how her partner Bomber brings her a snack shortly after she lays!
Tawny owls Luna & Bomber are back for their sixth year. They first nested here at Fotherdale Farm in 2020, although it was at a nest without a camera installed. In 2021, I filmed them in Beech Stump nest, which has been their favourite nest ever since. Sadly, that year, and also following year, Luna's eggs failed to hatch. In fact only three of this tawny owl pair's egg clutches have had successful hatchlings.
BUT. The owl pair have turned out to be incredibly good at fostering rescue chicks and since 2021 have raised a total of 14 foster chicks. It will be interesting to see how their story develops this season.
