Film | Little Owls Get Their 'Grumpy Face' At Just 2 Weeks 😍 | Discover Wildlife

At two weeks old these 'little owl' chicks grew the large eyes and feathered brow that can make this species look so grumpy.

Little owl species

Little owls are the UK's smallest owls. An adult measures just 20cm when standing and the chicks are tiny balls of fluff!  Not strictly a native species, these owls were introduced here in the 19th century. This is a bespoke nest, made especially to attract little owls and fitted with a camera so that I can follow their day-to-day lives.

Little owl chicks

This female has three chicks. In this video they are around two weeks old. Their eyes now wide, they are losing their downy fluff and their adult feathers are beginning to grow through. The adults are busy all day long hunting and bringing in food, watch as the young family soon demolish a woodmouse.

I love the grumpy look on some birds. I think the little bluebirds have a grumpy look too. I love your wildlife projects.
